Charlie has over 35-years of experience in the hvac industry with a heavy emphasis on integrating direct digital controls (ddc) with mechanical systems.
He was a principal participant in nine Chicago area projects that each won first place ASHRAE (Illinois Chapter) energy engineering excellence awards for commissioning and performance. Two of those projects went on to win 3rd place national ASHRAE awards. For 12-years, Charlie taught a junior college level course on direct digital controls for the National Association of Power Engineers. He was a featured speaker at the Air Contractors of America convention and at the Carrier Corporation’s Design/Build conference on direct digital control systems. Other organizations that have had Charlie teach annual “nuts & bolts” seminars to their members on the topic of controls systems and energy efficient building strategies include IFMA, IREM and the College of DuPage.
Charlie is a past chairman of the Illinois ASHRAE chapter energy committee. Charlie is a graduate of Southern Illinois University and a certified energy manager (CEM). Charlie’s industry specific training includes the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) air & water system balancing school, ASHRAE’s professional development program on air and water side design and commissioning, Bell & Gossett’s little red school house program on hydronic and steam system design and commissioning, AEE’s energy auditing program, Andover Controls advanced programming & system design, Delta Controls advanced programming and system design and Trane Corporations hvac load calculation and building modeling software training.
